The membership of Poland in European Union has eventuated into changes in economic conditions for the development of Polish agriculture and rural regions. The most crucial factors for these changes, along with the accession to the common European market and macro-economic drivers, are Common Agricultural Policy and Structural Funds. The CAP has provoked an increase of the support for agricultural sector, whereas the Structural Funds respectively propel up significant funds bound for modernization of food industry and development of rural regions. The outlook for the reforms of Common Agricultural Policy connected with greater liberalization of agricultural markets bring about necessity from the further support of the competitiveness of farms, which may have crucial role for the future prospects for the sector development. The new strategy approach regarding rural development imposes changes in priorities in structural and regional policy and promotes the planning approach for local development, known as “bottom-up”.
