In this article there is enquired into the production structure of the Bulgarian agriculture and its fitness to comply with the requirements of the local and the Common European market. There is performed an analysis of the structural changes as a result of the market orientation both regarding the East and the West. There are analysed the dynamics of the structure and the level of consumption of the basic food products and is discovered that the consumption drastically lags behind the achieved during the 1990's and even more with comparison to the European Union. It is proven that the low level of consumption of meat and milk unfavorably influences the healthy diet of the population. There are analyzed the dynamics and the structure of the agricultural exports, which after the strong decline in the year 2000 demonstrates a lasting trend of increase and is, at this stage, the only incentive for increasing the production. There are shown the directions of the restructuring of Bugarian agriculture from the point of view of satisfying the needs of the local market and the export opportunities.
Key words: structure, production, consumption, export.
