The system of control on the organic products' quality is one of the main tools for the successful development of organic farming. This system is based on standards, inspection, certification and accreditation. It is needed mostly for creating trust between the producer and the consumer. The inspection evaluates and identifies the production process, taking into account farmer's or processor's documentation as well as field visits. The labels and certification's seals have to show to the buyers on the markets or in the shops that the product is organic - that is why they are important market tools and allow a better price comparatively to the price of conventional products. The claim “organic” shows that the product is produced according to certain requirements called “standards”. The certification is a procedure, by which the certification body assesses the farm or the company and guarantees in writing, that organic standards' requirements have been observed. It can be performed by an international or a local body. According to this criterion, we recognize international (external), local, co-certification and certification by a small-sized producers' (processors') group. Accreditation is needed to guarantee that the certification program is entitled to accomplish inspection and certification. The agency “Bulgarian Accreditation Service” at the Ministry of Economy issues accreditation certificate under BDS EN 45011. According to the Bulgarian legislation, the control and certification of organic products in Bulgaria are a matter of activity of legal persons, legal entities - traders and non-profit associations, accredited from the above mentioned agency and who have permission from the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. The control and certification in Bulgaria can be made also by international control bodies with an appropriate status and entitlement. At this very moment in our country there exists only one nationally approved certification body - Balkan Biocert Ltd. Two more certification organizations have applied. SGS is waiting for the renewal of its certification too. In this article there have been reviewed the standard procedures of control and certification in Bulgaria of organic products, as well as the necessary documentations, needed during the inspection of a plant-growing-farm, a stock-breeding or of mixed-farms. There is commented the huge documentation and the strict procedure needed to obtain the certificate for organic farming, the weaknesses of the control and certification system as well as the comparatively high price of this activity, which most of the small-sized organic producers can not afford. There is given a recommendation to the interested in organic farming' s development state bodies to find efficient tools in future assisting of bio-producers in Bulgaria.
