Due to the great interest concerning the economic features of vetch both as a fodder crop and its cheap production, during the recent years it has again its important place in the development of the forrage basis of animal rearing. Before their introduction in practice the modern technologies of vetch fodder and grain production need to be assessed concerning their economic efficiency.
The conducetd in the Institute of Forrage Crops study during the period of 2002-2004 concerning the efficiency of forrage and grain production from the vetch of the Asko1 variety shows that the production of fodder and grain from winer vetch is and economically efficient activity. Its financial results can be managed through the choice of varios technological solutions which optimally combine the determinants of sowing time limits and of sowing rate.
The fodder production from winter vetch is an efficient economic activity with a returnability between 4.85% and 20.72%. The most economically efficient technoogical solution refers to the vetch sowing between the 20 and 25 of Septemrber with a sowing rate of 8.8 kg of seeds per da when from 68.21 leva spent per da there is acquired a profit of 14.13 BGN/da with perunit costs of 0.08 BGN/kg and returnability of 20.72%.
The returnability of grain production from winter vetch varies between 25.63% and 56.46% and the per unit costs vary between 0.38 and 0.48 BGN/kg. In the case of optimal combination of the determinants of sowing time limit (5-10 October) and sowing rate (8.8 kg/da) the maximum returnability of 56.46% is reached while the minimum unit costs per kg of acquired grain (0.38 BGN) are attained. More important for the efficiency of vetch growing both for forrage and for grain is the time limit of sowing, while the optimum time limits are accordingly 20-25 September and 5-10 October.
