The aim of the article is to reveal some problems of the production and the trade with rose blossom and other products produced from it (mostly rose oil) in the transition period and before the accession of Bulgaria to the EU. The directions for the solution of these problems are also given.
At the beginning of the transition, till 1994, there are negative trends in the rose production: loss of market position for products produced by rose blossom and sudden diminution of the surfaces with oleaginous rose and the production of rose blossom, rose oil and other derivative products. The main factors defining the negative trends are relevant to the conjuncture influence on the world market; to the fragmentation of the oleaginous rose areas in the period of agrarian reform; to the economic crisis in the country.
Positive change in these trends is observed after 1997. The main factors contributing for this are the raise of prices of the rose oil on the world market, restoration of market positions of Bulgaria, insurance of more favourable conditions for creation of new plants and intensification and improvement of the applied technologies. Last years the rose oil production reached 1,300 kg and the plantations with oleaginous rose - 30,000 decars. In the actual stage the continuing enlargement of areas provoke fears for difficulties for the rose oil exportation over 1,300 kg and mostly, the price diminution at the exportation. For diminishing of the risk of difficulties is recommended an improvement of the exportation's production structure by enlargement of the participation of other derivative products from the rose blossom - production and increase of the exportation of rose concret, rose absolu, rose water, for which Bulgaria has not many concurrence on the world market. As a possibility for improvement of perspectives for the rose oil exportation is recommended the examination of the opportunities for exportation for medical aims. Directions are recommended for amelioration of the rose oil competitiveness by participation at all stages of the chain production of rose blossom - processing - exportation: diminishing of expenses for unit production and insurance of permanently high quality by improvement of technologies, relations and interests of partners along the whole chain.
